1time has not filed for liquidation - report

2012-11-05 11:59
Cape Town - Conflicting reports have surfaced that 1time airline is not in liquidation but has only suspended its services as an airline.

An EyewitnessNews report quoted 1Time Airline CEO Blacky Komani as saying “On Friday last week, we made a call to suspend our services. We have not filed for liquidation, we have suspended our services as an airline. ”

When contacted to confirm if in fact a new course of action was being taken by 1time, its spokesperson Refilwe Masemola, reiterrated that the Business Rescue Practioner on Friday said there was no reasonable prospect of the business being saved. "All parties concerned have been in meetings on Saturday, Sunday and Monday,  which could have resulted in a different course of action, but I am unable to confirm this."

Since the airline halted services on Friday, The National Consumer Commission (NCC) is considering probing if 1time  for selling tickets just hours before it applied for liquidation.

Fin24 reported that NCC acting head Ebrahim Mohammed said it was looking into whether 1time misled passengers.  Scores of passengers were left stranded when the low-cost airline announced on Friday that it had applied for liquidation and stopped all operations.

It had about R320m in short-term debt and had been in negotiations with creditors since March.
