News24 Travel reader, Marike Brown, contacted us to share her story in response to the piece detailing alleged baggage tampering captured on camera at Cape Town International Airport.

"My suitcase was torn open which had a lock on.  All my jewellery was stolen, keeping in mind that it was at the bottom of my suitcase underneath all of my clothes.

I was on a flight from Joburg to CT, I have an idea it happened on CT airport because my bag came out a whole lot later than all the other bags.

It’s the most horrific thought knowing that someone went through all you belongings and stole precious items.

Eventually after 2 weeks I gave up the fight with SAL and ACSA.

It’s a useless battle of telling your story over and over with no results. From now on I ALWAYS wrap my bags. I am a frequent traveller from Upington to Cape Town, there is no facilities to wrap luggage at  Upington Airport.

This is the only concern, will your bags be tampered with again when arriving on conveyer when not wrapped."
