Photo of the Day: Photography Friday

2014-01-17 16:10
A travel trip is never complete without capturing the moment using a camera right? And yes, these days we have Instagram and all of these other great applications that have made photography easier and more accessible to the common folk.

But we need to take a moment to be thankful for this very day, January 17 because it was on this day in 1928, that the first fully automatic photographic film developing machine was patented (yay).

Today's Photo of the Day is in celebration of the awesomeness that is photography/instagramming/filming. The photo is from user, fitimvselimi, a 22 year old photojournalist based in Mitrovica. The picture is of a classic Nikon FM3a, with a new lomography Petzval lens.

Although the use of photographic film has declined over the years, one can’t think of photography without thinking back to those “film” days, where overexposure could leave you with no memories.

While digital photography is on the increase, film photography has left its mark on the world as it is said that there are now around one trillion pictures on photographic film in the world. To put that in perspective, that is enough to cover about half the size of Wales (10 000 square kilometres).

So, while you take your next great picture, be it a selfie, or capturing something amazing, you should marvel at the advancement of technology and just how far we’ve come as humans, and cameras, and errm, photographic film.
