Photo of the day: Mona Lisa

2013-10-02 14:24
It may be the world's most famous painting, but when you see the Mona Lisa for the first time chances are pretty good you'll feel a little underwhelmed.

It's pretty, but just so... small!

Combined with the fact that there is always a sea of people crowding around it to catch even just a fleeting glimpse, it's really no surprise that Leonardo da Vinci's half-smiling heroine has come to be counted among many-a traveller's worst tourist traps.

In today's photo of the day, Instagram user Carlossolari plays it very straight, saying "it's really small...and I'm a mess #louvre #paris #monalisa #cliché #mustsee" in the caption. (His selfie is surprisingly uncrowded at first glance... but check the reflection in his glasses!)

What do you think - would you consider the Mona Lisa a must-see attraction that adds richness to your travel experience no matter how big, small or crowded it is? OR is it something you'd easily skip on a trip to Paris?

Tell us your opinion in the comment section below or send us your thoughts to info@news24travel.com.

Which other famous attractions do you think count as tourist traps?
