Cape Town - While the Johannesburg Development Agency was pleased to announce the construction of a bridge that is set to link Johannesburg to Sandton, many News24 readers had quite a few things to say.

The announcement was made earlier this week.

While some, particularly Alexandra residents were pleased that a bridge of that nature was soon to exist, some were generally unhappy and expressed concern.

Here's what some people had to say about the bridge:

Waist of money, why not create jobs so that they can afford to pay for public transport and help pay for the E-Toll scam? All the ANC is doing is accommodating the current mess they created, they got no plan, no foresight, zero proactive attitudes, nothing! And now mentioning apartheid again lol.. I have to go look up the word in the dictionary these days...
-Blues Reid

Don't think the pedestrians will really use it, they will look for the shortest route and not bother to walk the extra few meters that is required for the bridge
-Francois Hugo

We have countless pedestrian bridges in SA crossing highways and railway lines but it seems that people still prefer to cross the highways and railway lines right underneath the pedestrian bridges.
-Robin Ackerman

I see the value of sandton property dropping rapidly ...there's sure gona be A lot more theft and hi-jackings and stolen goods/cars will be hidden in Alexandra + cops will b paid to look the other way (corruption) ..but hey that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it ...but if you wish to think it over logically ..u most welcome to
-Qamar Sheik

Corridor of Freedom must start in the Rural Areas.....people are so much less fortunate there...shame, they got access to nothing. They are not free..
-Yolanda van Hollstein

And here are people who thought this was a good idea:

This is the development I have been waiting for. Come 2015, there will be a safer place to cross with my bicycle.
-Mandla Magome

Atleast it will bring temporary employment to those who'll be constructing it.
-Tebogo Mokwana

1937 – In California, the Golden Gate Bridge opens to pedestrian traffic, creating a vital link between San Francisco and Marin County, California.
-Melanie Carlson
