Pilgrim's Rest court bid launched

2012-07-19 08:29
A group of Pilgrim's Rest business people was expected to launch an urgent court bid next week to prevent their evictions, Beeld reports.

The group lodged an urgent application in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday. This came after the Mpumalanga government informed businesses that their leases would not be renewed.

The Times newspaper reported earlier this month that at least 17 tenants at the heritage site faced eviction after the department issued them notices.

The tenants had to vacate the properties by the end of this month. Some of them said there had been no response from the department regarding their own applications for leases.

Business owners lease the properties from the department, which owns and runs the historic mining town.
