Table Mountain has been named as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. News24 visited the National Park to find out what security measures are in place for tourists. WATCH

Cape Town - The City of Cape Town is considering implementing controlled access to Signal Hill and Tafelberg roads between 22:00 and 05:00 in an effort to reduce crime.

Tourism Update reports that entrance to the roads would be barred by swing gates, which would be manned and monitored by SANParks officials. 

Ward Councillor, Dave Bryant said it was not a road closure and that people could still use the road at night, it will merely be used as a way to monitor who is going in and out. 

Speaking to Tourism Update, Bryant said the plan to control access had been opened up for public participation last week.

The public has until October 4 to comment.
