Europcar launches road trip app

If you're passionate about your favourite road trip routes, listen up! There's a new Facebook app on the block to help you share your experience.
Combining the best of Google Maps, Foursquare and Facebook, Europcar have created something truly fun and unique for anyone who's keen to explore more of South Africa.
Appropriately dubbed Road Tripper, the app is designed to get South Africans to share their favourite travel routes as well as tips and suggestions on which are the best places to visit.
How it works
Become a fan of the Europcar South Africa Facebook page and click on the Road Tripper app link in the top section of the page.
Once inside the app you click on the ‘create trip' tab to get started. A map tool will pop up where you can type in whichever destination you'd like your route to start from. Once it's been flagged on the map you can pull in a photograph - from your desktop, from an existing Facebook album or even images from Google's Street view. Now you can fill in the rest of the must-stop destinations on the route, doing the same for each.
You can even experiment with compiling themed routes, like ‘The Coffee Lover's Guide to Cape Town' or the ‘Girl's Night Out in Sandton.' In addition to submitting your own routes, you will also be able to browse routes compiled by other travellers and even well-known travel bloggers such as Andrew Brauteseth, who shares his thoughts and photographs on ‘Guy with Camera.'
Journey as important as destination
In celebration of the launch, Europcar has hidden prizes at mystery locations across the application's map. They are giving away prizes to the value of R100 000, including overnight stays at top locations. All Facebook fans need to do is unlock one of the mystery locations as part of their route within the application's map.
"The journey is as important as the destination and with this new application we are hoping to get more South Africans to share their travel experiences with each other and highlight some of the best road tripping routes our beautiful country has to offer. In so doing, more people will be encouraged to travel and re-discover the joy of road tripping," says Europcar chief executive Dawn Nathan-Jones.
"Fans of our Facebook page can better plan their trips and once the journey has been completed, share their experience with their friends and family. The fans can theme their trips around 4x4 trails, cycling routes or even their favourite restaurants."
Cost
The Road Tripper application is free and allows fans to plan or remember a route from within Facebook.
