Hartebeespoort Cableway reopens

The Aerial Cableway at Hartbeespoort Dam, which has been non-operational for the past seven years, has reopened after a refurbishment, Tourism Update reports.
The original cableway, which was built in 1973, fell into disrepair due to lack of proper maintenance and was subsequently closed in 2005.
In 2010, Zargadox, a private initiative that aims to establish Hartbeespoort as a key tourism hub, bought the dilapidated cableway.
It has been refitted and re-engineered with new headgear and cabling, and features the latest touch-screen programming with auto cabin spacing, an auto conveyer system and state-of-the-art cabin locators and switches.
The 14 new cable cars, each able to carry six passengers, can transport 300 people an hour.
Facilities at the top include a walkway around the mountain, shop, lookout bar, KidZone and Pizza Shack, with a restaurant and curio shop at the bottom.
Ticket sales open at 08h30, the first ride up is at 09h00, and the last ride down is at 16h30.
Price: Adults R120 and children R60 (4-13). Webtickets booking: Adults R100, children R50 (4-13). Entrance is free for children under four.
