Road closures: Opening of parliament

Cape Town - Several roads will be closed in Cape Town's CBD for the State of the Nation address and Opening of Parliament which will take place on Thursday.
In addition, a rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, with various roads being closed and parking restricted.
City-bound traffic on the N2 will be unable to use Nelson Mandela Blvd or De Waal Drive between 17:45 and 19:00 and are advised to use alternative routes, including the N1 via Vanguard Drive or the M5 from the N2. Southern Suburbs-bound traffic from the N2 will be able to use the M3 southbound.

Controlled roads and closures
-Security fencing will line the route in the CBD. There will be guarded pedestrian crossing points during peak time on Adderley St. at Hans Strijdom, Waterkant and Castle Streets
- Roads around the Cape Town International Convention Centre, including Coen Steytler Ave will be security controlled between Thursday, 14 February at 19:30 and Friday 15, February at 01:00
- The Company's Garden will be closed on Thursday, 14 February between 16:00 and 20:00

Alternative routes
Road users are advised to use the following alternative routes to/from the CBD during the event:
M5, Black River Parkway, then onto the N1, Table Bay Boulevard
M4, Main Road, onto Victoria Road up to the Good Hope Centre. Thereafter, left onto Tennant Road or right onto Christiaan Barnard Street to circle the outer CBD

Use the following ring route to/from the area of the CBD affecting you:

- Table Bay Boulevard
- Buitengracht
- Buitensingel Street
- Orange Street
- Jutland Avenue
- Upper Roeland Street/Brandweer Street

MyCiTi bus service
The MyCiTi bus service will continue throughout the proceedings and rehearsals. At the Civic Centre bus station on Hertzog Boulevard, buses will arrive at and depart from the north side of the station (Hertzog Boulevard outbound). Passengers and pedestrians will not be permitted to use Hertzog Blvd inbound sidewalks on Thursday, 14 February between 16:00 and 20:00 and are requested to please use the other access points.
Closures between 18:00 and 19:00
MyCiTi - Civic Centre Station: The Table View and Gardens pods at the Civic Centre Station will be closed during this time period. The Table View and Civic to Gardens services will be re-directed to operate from the Airport and Waterfront pods for the duration of the closure.
MyCiTi - Thibault Square Station: The Thibault Square Station will be closed during this time period. No services will operate from this station for the duration of the closure.Passengers are to use either the Civic Centre Station or the Castle Street stops on Long and Loop Streets as an alternative.
MyCiTi - Adderley Stops: The Adderley Stops will be closed during this time period. Passengers are to use the Civic Centre Station for the duration of the closure.
MyCiTi - St George's Stops: The St George's Stops will be closed during this time period. Passengers are to use the Castle Stops on Long and Loop Streets for the duration of the closure.
MyCiTi - Route Deviation: Gardens - Civic Centre - Waterfront Route. Buses will not pass Thibault Square Station, the Adderley Street stops and St George's stops for the duration of the closure.
