Cape Town -  The Southern Sun Waterfront Hotel  hosted media, top travel writers and bloggers for a MasterChef SA Mystery Box Dinner with Tsogo Sun celebrity chef and MasterChef SA judge, Benny Masekwameng.

We also got to meet one of the finalists in MasterChef season 2 and Capetonian Kamini Pather - and she is as delightful in person as she is on our screens.

But what does this mean to you the avid traveller?

Well, if you happen to be close to or staying in one of the participating Tsogo Sun hotels, you can tap into your inner-master chef and experience the Tsogo Sun mystery box promotion first hand.

You'll get the opportunity to experience the flavours, textures, ingredients and flair as seen on TV screens each week.

A mystery box is on display at the entrances of the selected Tsogo Sun hotel restaurants every Monday to Friday until 11 September.

Participating hotels include the Southern Sun Waterfront, Southern Sun The Cullinan, The Southern Sun Cape Sun, Sandton Sun, The Palazzo Montecasino, Beverly Hills, SunCoast Towers, 54 on Bath.

Keep in mind, the mystery box ingredients change on a weekly basis.

Each mystery box contains eight ingredients, some seasonal and some unusual – challenging the creativity, skill and versatility of Tsogo Sun’s chefs, who’ll use the contents of the box to create a special main course dish to be paired with a Nederburg wine.

“It’s your chance to become a MasterChef judge for the evening and to put our talented chefs to the test,” says Graham Wood, Managing Director of Tsogo Sun.

What's in the box?  The hotel's Executive Chef, Martin Chetty was the master behind the mystery box surprise.

“When our adventurous guests select one of the week’s mystery dishes, they’ll also get to be a judge for the evening, and will be given a fun scorecard to judge the dish. Ratings will include categories such as presentation, flavour, texture, colours, and more – with the opportunity to win a range of spot prizes and be entered into a draw for the grand prize,” said Wood.

Take a look at some of what we enjoyed during the four-course mystery box meal prepared by the hotel's Executive Chef, Martin Chetty, with Nederburg wine pairings by Tsogo Sun Regional Sommelier, Georgio Meletiou.

One lucky diner will win five nights’ of luxury at the Beverly Hills hotel in Umhlanga, with dinner, bed and breakfast for two, as well as a dinner prepared by Benny Masekwameng, Tsogo Sun’s celebrity chef and MasterChef SA judge.

This year, Tsogo Sun is a fully-fledged monetary sponsor of MasterChef SA, in addition to sponsorship one of the main prizes, which will see the season 2’s top amateur chef winning a well-deserved holiday at the group’s ultimate luxurious property in its portfolio, Maia Luxury Resort & Spa in the Seychelles.

The mains... with the creative sides.
