SONA: Cape road closure alert

2014-06-17 08:40
Cape Town - Motorists in Cape Town are being warned that several roads will be closed for the second State of the Nation Address and the Opening of Parliament on Tuesday.

Traffic flow in the City bowl will be affected and road users are asked to use alternative routes and plan accordingly.

The City of Cape Town confirmed on its website that a new road closures route has been put in place in order to minimise impact on commuters.

"The change in route will have less of an impact on MyCiTi operations, and commuters will be able access the Cape Town Railway Station as Adderley Street between Stand Street and Hertzog Boulevard will not be fenced off.

The closures will, however, have the greatest effect on road users travelling from the East side of the city towards Vredehoek and Gardens, as well as those travelling into town along Nelson Mandela and De Waal Drives.

Those who make use of the Golden Acre bus terminus should take particular note that, due to the new route, their buses will operate from Strand Street at the Castle from 18:00 onwards. Parking restrictions are also in effect and access to the Company’s Garden has been restricted from 09:00 on Tuesday.
