Sunday morning outing gone wrong: Car drives into Sonstraal dam

2014-07-08 09:26

Check out this crazy video of a car being retrieved from the Sonstraal dam by a team of divers. WATCH

Cape Town – What was meant to be a simple morning trip to the shop for milk and bread turned into something of a disaster when the vehicle Armand Theron, 21, was driving found itself slap bang in the middle of a dam.

Wait. What?

Die Burger reports that Armand had stopped at the Sonstraal dam in Durbanville on his way back home from the shop when the incident happened.

Check out the video here.

According to his sister Daniella, he was taking in the scenery when suddenly the car, which actually belongs to his mother Yvonne, sped past him, down a little hill and right into the water.

Despite Armand’s best efforts he couldn’t save the car from its watery grave, and the Renault Modus was written off.

The siblings insist that the hand break was activated, but that something must have gone awry with the mechanism.

The vehicle had to be retrieved from the dam by a team of divers.
