UFO spotted over Cape Town

Various reports of an unidentified flying object hovering in Cape Town's night sky have been surfacing on Facebook and Twitter.

According to an account on UFO Research South Africa dated 5 December 2012, the object takes the form of a "white orb" that seems to be "smaller than a car."

"I was driving home , just coming off hospital bend when I noticed a white orb cruising across the sky. At first I thought it was a plastic bag or balloon, but then I noticed that it was cruising with a constant speed and was slightly reflective," says John, the eyewitness who submitted the report.

Various Twitter users reported a similar sighting near Table Mountain on Tuesday night.

While Capetonians were certainly most vocal about it, a post by local blogger, Life is Savage, states that something similar was seen from Franschhoek, Gansbaai and even Storms River.

This is, however, not the first time Capetonians have reported strange objects flying around the night sky. In April this year, a YouTube user posted a video of a UFO moving across the sky above Cape Town Stadium.

For the more gullible among us, there is also, of course, the case of the classic-looking spaceship spinning over Cape Point visible on Google Earth that surfaced sometime last year.
