The pink feather in the international Gay Calendar, The Pink Loerie Mardi Gras offers four days of non-stop partying for all who attend. The area becomes a hub of Mardi Gras events with the float parade being a key highlight. Expect loads of light-hearted fun and laughter. Recently voted one of Africa’s best cities by Conde Naste Traveller, Knysna has been taking this event from one outrageously fun level to the next. Definitely not an event to be missed.

This ultimate in freedom of expression, head to this festival with sole intention of building your sense of community. Constructed out of collaborative arts projects, in a completely non-commercial environment it operates on a “gift economy” without a single commercial exchange at the event - no vending, no cash bars and no branded promotion of services or products - all in the name of real social interaction. If you’re up for the exercise of total self-reliance, take along all your food, shelter, water, fuel, and basic first aid supplies. This festival is not for sissies – so check out all the full details before deciding to go.
