2012-05-30 15:48

Is the mere thought of winter bringing you the blues? Well, set that sinking feeling aside as you check out this selection of incredible food, wine and beer festivals taking place across the country.

Boozy fests

I don't know who decided that winter would be a good time to celebrate the fruit of the vine, but whoever you are, if you're out there reading this, I just want to say you did it right! I mean what better way to fend off the chills than bundling into a car - or maybe rather a taxi - with a few friends, heading to a picturesque location and warming up the cold bones with many little glasses of delicious vino?

Sound divine? Get ready your pen and diary!

Die Burger Wacky Wine Weekend in Robertson, 7 - 10 June 2012

This weekend-long celebration is quite possibly the very epitome of the word ‘FUN.' Taking place in the gorgeous Robertson Wine Valley, farms and estates from Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson are all included in the festivities, offering a host of unique activities, shows and experiences. The organizers of the event are very serious about arriving alive and have strict ‘designated driver' policies in place as well as the option of hopping onto one of the many ‘buddy buses.'

Cost: All visitors need to purchase a passport for R90 at their first port of call. This includes a stylish tasting glass, WWW goodie bag, festival program and a bottle of water to pace yourself with. From here they are free to explore the area at a whim.

With a wide array of music, art, sporting events and adventure, it's easy to indulge all your senses at this diverse festival in the Garden Route's most famous town. However, pay your respects to the slimy, yet satisfying delicacy that gave the festival its name and made it what it is today by stopping ever so often to let one slide down your throat. Oh, and as we all know the benefits that oysters hold, be sure to take your lover (or potential) along!

Check out the Oyster festival website for more details.
