7 million girls in SA miss school every month due to lack of access to sanitary pads

08 September, 10:21 AM

We speak to Liza Adlem and Jennifer Aston, who are SUBZHeroes, about the shocking number of girls who miss up to three months of school each year because they don't have access to sanitary pads.

Adlem and Aston tell us that millions of schoolgirls in SA are forced to stay home when they are menstruating, because of this SUBZ Pads has introduced a reusable, sanitary pants-and-pad pack that will last girls up to five years.

SUBZHeroes are a group of female cyclists who ride to raise awareness about the issue in order to change the lives of young women in South Africa.

To date, more than 35,000 “pants-and-pad” packs have been handed out in local communities, changing the lives of these girls and giving them a chance to attend as many school days as they possibly can.

Aston and Adlem will be riding The Coronation Double Century cycling race with 15 women to raise funds for SUBZ Pads. They tell us how you can support them here:
