16 Days of Activism: artists air out SA's dirty laundry

29 November, 12:24 PM

Two artists are forcing Joburgers to talk about rape through an exhibition downtown. Watch.

The installation includes 3600 "old and used" pairs of underwear that have been donated to represent the same number of people raped every day in South Africa.

Jenny Nijenhuis and Nondumiso Msimanga's artwork will be on display until December and falls in with 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children.

The art installation is based on a 2013 Medical Research Council survey that up to 3600 people could be raped in the country every day, however Africa Check said the calculations are flawed.
