15 June, 02:11 PM

The Department of Public Safety launched the ‘Women Safety’ campaign, in partnership with the University of Johannesburg on Wednesday, to teach women students self defence. Watch.

The Women Safety campaign was launched at the UJ Sophiatown residence to teach students on self-defense.

The City of Johannesburg's Micheal Sun said the Johannesburg Metro Police and the city are working together to stop gender-based violence and crimes on campuses.

One student, Nozipho Radebe, said she felt 'trapped in a jail cell', as she no longer feels safe walking around in public.

The campaign is a response to the growing numbers and reports of women being assaulted and killed.
