Easter weekend in South Africa sees heavy traffic flow with hours spent on the road and fluctuating death tolls.
Former Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, announced in 2016 following the Easter weekend that the death toll had significantly decreased from a total of 287 to 165.
Peters' successor Joe Maswanganyi urged South Africans to remain responsible drivers during the upcoming travel period.
