We need to deal with the workings of the party - Maimane on DA suspensions in CT

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane says the aim of the party is to focus on issues and make sure the Cape Town caucus works as a collective, following the brief suspension of Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille and mayoral committee member JP Smith.

DA Spokesperson Phumzile Van Damme released a statement on Tuesday saying De Lille and Smith have been placed on 'special leave'.

This came after the Cape Town mayor released a statement saying she had told her lawyers of 'malicious and defamatory' remarks made by Smith, following a public spat between the two. 

Maimane added that it's his job to make sure the DA remains much more united and effective moving forward.
