WATCH: AKA, Minnie Dlamini at ANC rally

24 July, 07:30 AM

Watch as thousands of African National Congress (ANC) supporters cheer during surprise appearances from rapper AKA and TV presenter Minnie Dlamini.

Both celebrities surprised the crowd at Dan Qeqe Stadium in Zimbe, Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday, 23 July 2016.

ANC leader President Jacob Zuma and incumbent Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, Danny Jordaan, spoke at the event.

The excitement was palpable when Dlamini and the rapper went onstage and encouraged their audience to vote ANC.

Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municpality is one of eight 'Metros' in South Africa.

According to some analysts, it could be the second one (after Cape Town) to go to the Democratic Alliance (DA).

However, if numbers in the rain, wind and cold on Saturday are anything to go by, thousands of residents will be marking the ANC's entry on the ballot.

The presence of popular culture figures like these two entertainers, seen below with Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula, may have been roped in to appeal to young voters.
