21 April, 02:35 PM
Seventy nine more people died on the roads over the Easter period compared to last year.
This is a 51% increase to 235, Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi announced on Friday.
Majority of the fatal crashes took place after 6pm to the early hours.
The department revealed that most of the people who died were "victims of hit and run incidents, jaywalking or motorists who were driving at high speeds."
