What you need to know about the bird flu outbreak in SA

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, announced on Thursday that the trade of chickens in South Africa has been put on hold due to the increase in the H5N8-strain bird flu. Watch.  

South Africa's neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe and Namibia, have banned poultry imports from fear of the virus. 

Zokwana said the trade ban will be put in place until it's verified that the country's chickens are safe and free from the avian influenza.
