WATCH: 'Sewage plumes' in CT and the impact on marine life

17 June, 01:26 PM

Last year News24 brought you an in-depth video report on marine outfalls in Cape Town and how they are pumping increasing amounts of raw, untreated sewage into the Atlantic Ocean.

Marine Conservation photographer Jean Tresfon, who initially took photographs of alleged 'sewage plumes', posted another series of recently-taken photos to remind the public that City officials have not managed to stem the flow.

Dangerous, unacceptable levels of e.coli were recorded while some ocean users reportedly fell violently ill after bathing in the polluted water along Cape Town's Atlantic Seaboard.

But what about the environmental impact? In this second part of the interview, Jean touches on the effect toxicity levels in human effluent may be having on marine life. Watch.
