‘We don't need a statue, we need sanitation’ – Groot Marico residents divided over R1.8m monument

Residents of Groot Marico in the North-West have issued complaints on the newly-erected Jacob Zuma Monument, saying the money could have been better spent elsewhere as they expressed needs for better sanitation and development in the area.

North-West Premier Supra Mahumapelo and President Jacob Zuma unveiled the monument at the Groot Marico Heritage Site on October 4. 

While the North-West government has come under fire for its decision to erect the R1.8 million statue, some locals have welcomed the site in the area, saying the president deserves it.
