Washington - The voice on a tape recording broadcast on Wednesday and attibuted to ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein is "likely" authentic, a US official said on Thursday.
"This is likely Saddam's voice," said a US official speaking on condition of anonymity.
Analysts cannot be absolutely certain because "the quality of the tape is not good," the official added.
An audiotape attributed to Saddam, broadcast the day after Saddam's sons Uday and Qusay were killed in a ferocious fire-fight with US forces, was aired by the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya television channel.
"The war (against the US-led coalition) is not over. The war is not finished," warned the voice on the audiotape.
Al-Arabiya said the tape was recorded on July 20.
