Kirkuk, Iraq - At least three Iraqis were killed and 15 wounded in this northern oil centre Thursday when a suicide bomber blew up a car packed with explosives at a checkpoint near Kurdish offices, police said.
The target of the attack was the offices of the two main Kurdish factions - the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party - but the vehicle was stopped 200m away, said chief of police Sherku Shaker.
The dead, apart from the car driver, were a schoolmistress and two pupils caught up in the blast in the busy city centre district, Shaker said.
An estimated 200kg of explosives was crammed into the Nissan pick-up which was completely destroyed by the blast, he said.
