Baghdad - The United States military will investigate allegations that its forces killed dozens of people at a wedding party in the western Iraqi desert, Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt said Thursday.
"Certainly, because of the interest that has been shown by the media, we're going to have an investigation.
"Some of the allegations that have been made will cause us to go back and look at this," he said.
But he said the attack was based on intelligence that armed insurgents were gathering in the remote desert near the Syrian border.
"We had significant intelligence which caused us to conduct military operations in the middle of the desert," he said, adding that weapons, including machine guns and sniper rifles had been found in the area.
