Sars kills 12 more in Hong Kong

Hong Kong - Twelve more people have died in Hong Kong after contracting the deadly Sars virus, taking the death toll to 133, while 16 new cases of the disease have been recorded, the government said on Sunday.
It was the second time this month a record 12 deaths from severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) has been reported in a single day, the last time on April 19.
A total of 1 543 cases of Sars have now been recorded in the territory, a statement from the department of health said.
The latest deaths involved eight females and four males aged from 45 to 91, eight of whom had a history of chronic disease.
The 45-year-old female was a former resident of the Amoy Garden housing estate, which was initially one of the centres of the outbreak in the city, senior executive of the Hospital Authority Dr Liu hao-haei told reporters.
A total of 668 patients have recovered from atypical pneumonia and have been discharged from hospital, of which 36 were discharged on Sunday.
