10 000 evacuated in Vietnam
Hanoi - More than 10 000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in central Vietnam as flooding claimed the life of a six-year-old boy, local media reported on Tuesday.
Landslides triggered by heavy rain have blocked all roads in the southern part of Quang Nam province, state-run newspaper Viet Nam News reported, citing Nguyen Minh Tuan from the provincial Flood Prevention and Control Committee.
The floods have killed five people in the province. Two more have drowned in nearby Da Nang city.
Floods have also reportedly killed 78 people including 65 children in the southern Mekong Delta region, according to the United Nations.
The disaster has inundated nearly 126 000 homes in the delta, affecting around 566 000 people.
