Kiev - Some 2 000 opposition supporters led by boxing champion Vitali Klitschko took part Monday in a protest over alleged fraud in Ukraine's recent parliamentary elections.

The protesters in Kiev accused the ruling Regions Party of President Viktor Yanukovych of deliberately delaying the vote count.

"We want a recount in this controversial election," Klitschko, who heads the opposition Udar party, told dpa.

The Central Election Commission has given Regions 30% of the vote in the 28 October poll, the Motherland party of jailed former premier and opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko 25.5% and Klitschko's party around 13%.
