Paris - Twenty baggage handlers were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of stealing from travellers' suitcases at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, airport officials said.

The arrests came at the end of a 16-month long investigation by transport police who launched their probe after around 3 000 travellers wrote to French authorities complaining that their belongings had been stolen at the air hub.

Roissy-Charles de Gaulle is one of the two major airports serving Paris and one of the busiest in Europe.

They have no idea what theft is in Paris. Try South Africa's airports or even the post office. Everyone in South Africa knows that they should not put anything of value in there suitcases cause it will be gone the moment you check your bags in. If they had to have an investigation they will fire the whole airport and not just 16 staff members.
