Ramallah - A Palestinian man who tried to stab an Israeli border policeman was shot and killed on Monday in the northern West Bank, near the city of Nablus, medics said.

The Israeli army confirmed that its soldiers shot at the assailant.

The stabbing incident was the third in the last few days. A Palestinian man died of wounds sustained on Saturday after stabbing a border policeman in the same area.

Tensions remain high on the West Bank and Jerusalem, with the peace process between the Israelis and Palestinians stalled and a recent announcement on the expansion of Jewish settlements.
