3 feared dead in Swiss Alps crash

Geneva - Three people are feared to have died when a helicopter crashed in the Swiss Alps, police said after calling off the search as night fell on Thursday.

Bern police were alerted early on Thursday evening after the helicopter disappeared near Reichenbach in central Switzerland, a police spokesperson said.

"According to initial information, there were three people on board the helicopter, including the pilot," he said.

With the help of a reconnaissance helicopter, rescuers found a fire and some debris in an area very difficult to access.

The search and the police enquiry into the cause of the crash will resume on Friday.
