Sana'a - More than 70 people were reported to have been killed on Monday when a Saudi-led coalition against Yemen's Houthi rebels bombed a wedding party.

Health ministry spokesperson Dr Tamim al-Shami said 76 people were killed and another 55 injured in the air strike on Wagha village near the Red Sea port of Mocha.

The strikes hit two pavilions, one for male guests at the wedding and the other for women and children, Mocha local council member Sheikh Abdullah al-Fadhli told dpa.

Al-Fadhli said there were no military positions or Houthi fighters in the vicinity of the wedding party.

The raids come a day after coalition airstrikes on a village in northwestern Hajja province killed 19 people, according to a local official.

Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies launched an air campaign against the Houthis in March after they forced President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi into exile.

Riyadh fears that the mainly Shi'ite rebels will give their regional rival Iran a foothold on the Arabian peninsula.
