89.4% 'yes' for new Syria constitution

Damascus - Almost 90% of voters approved Syria's new constitution brought in after 11 months of anti-regime protests, the interior minister announced on Monday.

Mohammed al-Shaar also told a press conference that turnout reached 57.4% of eligible voters, with 89.4% of the 8.376 million who cast their ballots in Sunday's referendum saying "yes" to the new constitution.

    I love this because the Syrian people are taking part in resolving their issues now, I can proudly say that whatever constitution they agree on it certainly last and bring freedom for them. No international involvement,great!.

    It is completely unacceptable that a dictator, who's killed upwards of 7,000 civilians, detained and tortured tens of thousands more, writes into the draft constitution that he will continue to hold office for a further 14 years. Arrogant beyond words, and it won't work.
