Action urged against US Gaza protesters

2011-06-30 14:00

Austin - Texas Governor Rick Perry is urging the US attorney general to take action against US citizens who take part in a pro-Palestinian protest flotilla set to sail to the Gaza Strip.

The governor is a frequent visitor to Israel and is considering a run for president in 2012.

Perry wrote on Wednesday that he was concerned about two US-flagged ships that plan to challenge the Israeli naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. He urged US Attorney General Eric Holder to take legal steps to stop Americans from taking part, or to prosecute them if they do.

Perry cites federal law that prohibits US citizens from taking maritime action against a friendly country.

Last year, demonstrators attempted to sail to Gaza, but were stopped by Israeli forces; nine activists died in the melee.

This governor would have charged and arrested anybody supporting the end of aprtheid too if he was the leader in the 1980s. extremely racist. making it very difficult for hispanics to live in texas.

      Zanu - 2011-06-30 16:15

Anti-Semitism hasn't gone away; it's merely morphed into hatred of Israel. The Jews will never be "loved". The world will love the Jews greatly were they to roll over and die, and that is not going to happen. I'm with Machiavelli -- it is far, far better to be feared than to be loved.

      za101 - 2011-06-30 16:36

Its not anti-semitism , Zanu. Its human rights and freedom. Israel took the land of Arab people. In the 1940's Arabs owned over 70% of the land of what is today Israel and the Occupied Territories. Israel came and did to Arabs, what the Nats did to District 6 and Sophiatown and other places in South Africa. The truth hurts.

      Zanu - 2011-06-30 17:05

Israel took the land of Arab people??? What are your smoking? The land belonged to the Jews 2000 years before Islam was born, then the Romans controlled the land (killed Jesus) then the Ottomans took over, then the British who handed it over to the UN who divided the land. The Arabs went to war. The Arabs told Muslims on the land to leave so they could wipe out the Jews. The Arabs lost the war (Israel did not kick out anyone) and the rest is history. The only people ‘kicked’ out were the Jews. who got licked out of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Saudi, Lebanon, Tunisia, Syria and Yemen... you lost your return note when the Arab world told you to leave... but you can take up any one of the empty spots the "Jew" left for you anywhere in the countries above. Lastly, I trust you understand that the TRUE Palestinians are the Jews. The Arabs co-opted the name (and the identity) in 1966. I remind you that during the Mandatory period, the British referred to Jews as "Palestinians." The Arabs were just always referred to as "Arabs." During World War Two, when the call went out to form a Palestine Brigade, the only people who signed up were -- you guessed it -- Jews. The Arabs were aligned with the Nazis, in case you didn't know.

      Zanu - 2011-06-30 17:24

za101..............700000 Arabs told to leave by the Arab armies of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and Saudi. They thought they could go back after the Jews were murdered. God wanted differently though, the Jews won – and the Arabs of the land remained homeless. Any other way to look at this is wrong and manipulation of the truth. Funny though how those same countries that told the Muslims to leave never agreed to give them citizenship after they lost the war (with the exception of Jordan) So you reckon it ok to attack and then complain that you lost?

      Zanu - 2011-06-30 20:20

u ask why i support israel? cause this below can happen anywhere in the middle east except for israel. the real apartheid in this world

      WATCHMAN - 2011-07-01 08:34

za101 - If you study the history of the land, the Palestinians were never there, only in very few numbers. The Jews did not steal the land as you and others are so blindly told by the mainstream media. They were given the right to go back to their homeland as a nation and given the right to govern it again by a unanimous vote of the United Nations with Britain abstaining. This all happened in one day as the Prophets foretold. Isa 66:8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. The fact that this all happened in one day is only an act of God Almighty, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It was foretold that they would be a nation without a land and scattered among the nations and brought back. Eze 6:8 Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries. It was foretold that God would regather them back. Jer 31:10 Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. Why is this going to happen. Is God doing this for Israel, no he is doing it because of His name that through them He will show His glory to the world.

  • saga6 - 2011-06-30 15:11

Exactly - Defend, not launch massive attacks on Palestine's small towns and schools, where defenseless children play in the street. there is no opposition there, thats why they attack there. Look a bit further than your nostrils and see images of dead babies in their parents arms. I wonder how dangerous that child(ren) was when it was killed.

      LexLuther - 2011-06-30 16:04

At Saga6 and MIK and 2002 and all you Jew haters on this site: All you ever do is attack Israel, as if Israel must sot back and take all the muder and genocide from the Arab states around it and not do anything. You say that Jews must die and Jewish rights must be violated, but not the Arabs. Za101 - the only time the Palestinians need to produce documentation is when they corss into Israeli territory. Every single country in the world has pasport control and checks who enters its territory, but you would like Israel to allow terrorists free access to murder Israeli civilians. Just walk in and blow women, children and innocent civilians to death. Mik: you completely ignore the war that the Arabs started. They daily send rockets and missiles into Israel to try kill Israeli children and women and innocent civilians and then you complain when the Israelis attack back? Grow up man. If you start a war you must take the consequences. All you do is single out Israel and you do not admit that there are two sides to every conflict. Therefore you are racist because you only attack one side. That is the definition of racism. That whole white phospherous thing is utter rubbish. And you are right, it is only most muslims that are violent Jew-haters, only most. And all you people are very vocal here - I never see your comments when there is news about Sudan, Syria, Bahrain, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Morroco, Iran, Indonesia, Bali. No it is only Israel that you criticize. HYPOCRITES

      za101 - 2011-06-30 16:15

@LexLuther Arabs living in the west bank need to show documentation to move from one village to another village and from town to town within the West Bank. Its like me having to get approval to travel from one town to another in Gauteng.

      Zanu - 2011-06-30 16:26

Do freedom fighters deliberately attack a school bus? Do freedom fighters slit the throats of a sleeping family? Do freedom fighters stab innocent people who are just waiting for a bus? Do freedom fighters hurl boulders at moving cars? Do freedom fighters keep shooting missiles while the retaliation by Israel hurts their civiliaans more then anyone else? Whatever depraved and genetically compromised individuals such as the pro-Hamas may call it, the rest of the world calls it terrorism.

      za101 - 2011-06-30 16:39

Zanu.... Zionist terrorist groups like Stern, Haganah and Levi kicked out the British and Arabs from that land in the 1940s. They blew up the King David Hotel in the 1940s. Go read about Deir Yaseen and the massacare that took place there. Zionist terrorist groups went it, killed the men and children, took ladies away, paraded them naked and then killed them. Go learn about the hundreds of towns and villages that were depopulated of Arab Populations by Zionist groups. These Zionist Groups used bombs , blowing up buses . And that was in the 1940s.

  • mik - 2011-06-30 15:12

@LUTHER. Israel and US are always the heroes hey? Lex it is not amatter of wanting all Jews dead. Stop trying to seem the victim! How can Israel defend itself from innocent civilians,Mmmm? Go shower them with white phosphorous. Even your own Rabbis protested against that! Protested to give the land back to the Palestinians and not just take it. Nothing was said what the soldiers did in order to be attacked! There is always a reaction to an action. Remember one thing. Not all jews are murderers and muslim haters and not all muslims are terrorists like the world labels us. One more thing! What country allows children to sign bombs to be dropped on innocent civilians! Cultivating hatred in their youth. Shame on you for your comments...

      Met - 2011-06-30 16:16

The Rabbis( some) protest because Israel is a democracy with Arabs in the Knesset(parliament)and dissent is allowed, unlike in the areas controlled by the Arabs- including Palestinians.

      Zanu - 2011-06-30 16:31

quotes from MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR: "I cannot stand idly by, even though I happen to live in the United States and even though I happen to be an American Negro and not be concerned about what happens... to the Jews in Soviet Russia. For what happens to them happens to me and you, and we must be concerned." "Israel's right to exist as a state in security is uncontestable." "Peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect its right to exist, its territorial integrity. I see Israel as one of the great outposts of democracy in the world, and a marvelous example of what can be done, how desert land can be transformed into an oasis of brotherhood and democracy. Peace for Israel means security and that security must be a reality." "I solemnly pledge to do my utmost to uphold the fair name of the Jews -- because bigotry in any form is an affront to us all." "When people criticize Zionists they mean Jews, you are talking anti-Semitism."

  • za101 - 2011-06-30 15:13

@LexLuther I'm not a jew hater. Israel is making excuses by creating the Hamas boogey man to oppress Palestinian people, take their land, expel them etc etc. Hamas is wrong to attack israeli civillians. But Israel is being disproportionate in what it is doing to the people in Gaza. And why are people of West Bank suffering. Hamas does not rule West Bank. Why is those Palestinians being made to suffer. Aprtheid South Africa made Black people look bad to justify apartheid. Hitler told lies about jews and communists to advance his goals. Israel's government is as bad and oppressive as the governments in Libya, Iran, Syria, Zimbabwe, Swaziland.

      Met - 2011-06-30 16:08

Yeh, and the Palestinians are the custodians of Western democracy? The palestinian Authority was regarded the most corrupt in the world

      za101 - 2011-06-30 16:20

see confuse Palestinian Authorithy with Hamas. Israel's governments beame very cozy with the Palestinian Auhhority (PA). At the end, the PA were filled with people just like Hosni Mubaarak (who was the biggest sucker to Israel). The people of the PA only cared about themselves. It suited Israel very well, and then the Occupied Territories had elections and voted out these Honsi Mubaarak type leaders. Israel and Honsi Mubaarak got very upset. So they blockaded the Gaza Strip. Most people in the world wanted to see Mubaarak gone for 2 reasons: - one he was a terrible leader holding Egypt back - and 2; Hosni Mubaarak was doing everything he could do to weaken the Palestinian people.

      za101 - 2011-06-30 16:43

I see people dont like when I condemn Zimbabwe, Hosni Mubaarak and Gadaffi

  • 2002 - 2011-06-30 15:31

There is no place in the world where racism... is as widespread and institutionalized as in the Arab world; against Jews, Gays, Women and Christian minorities.

      za101 - 2011-06-30 16:45

zanu ............u are a propoganda machine from the apartheid era. I would have loved to see how you would have defended PW Botha, Vervoed, Malan, Vorster if the internet was there during the Apartheid years

      Cornix - 2011-06-30 17:20

za101, don't draw parallels between SA and Israel. They have two completely different stories.

      Zanu - 2011-06-30 17:28

Never defended Apartheid you loser! On the contrary I fought against it. In the same way as I fight against apartheid in the Arab world... for you can not be a Christian in your world. & in the same way that I fight for Israel’s right to be a nation that can stand up and protect itself from a brainwashed fools like you.

      za101 - 2011-06-30 17:33

Cornix and Zanu Most people in the Anti-Apartheid movement agree that Israels actions are very similar to that of Apartheid South Africa

      za101 - 2011-06-30 17:36

@zanu I am so happy that Mubaarak the evil dictator is gone. Hopefully, Egypt can become a democratic country like South Africa where everybody lives together in peace. Mubaarak was bad for Egyptians, as he was bad for Palestinians. I am also happy that you and I support the movement for freedom in Syria, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, Libya, Algeria. All these governments are oppressing their own people.

      Zanu - 2011-07-01 05:51

Agree with your last comment... however, am also not surprised you left out Hamas out of your list, even though they are oppressing their own people.

Why Christians believe Gaza belongs to Israel:

      za101 - 2011-06-30 16:47

@cornix You really dont see how ignorant you are. Firstly, Israels supporters say that Israel does not control Gaza. Then you come along and say that Gaza belongs to Israel. Sinking in pooo.

      Cornix - 2011-06-30 17:13

za101, have you read the article I posted the link to? All of it?

      za101 - 2011-06-30 17:23

@ cornix where was god for 2000 years? was god sleeping all this time? was god on vacation? Israel only captured Gaza in 1967. Most of the people living in Gaza had their homes in all those southern Israeli towns. The website says its Christian to support Israel. I know many Christians who disagree. In fact some people said Apartheid was justified by Christianity and that to condemn Aparthid was actually being a bad Christian. That website says that Arabs occupy other lands of Israel. They not occupying land. This is their land. They lived on it before the Jews were settled there from the 1900s. Cant they live there together. Israel is big enough to accomodate Palestinians and Jews. That website also says God gave the land between the Nile and the Euphrates to Jews. There are 50 million Arabs living in that land. You want to kick out 50m million Arabs from their land. What type of a God do you have?

      za101 - 2011-06-30 17:28

honestly cornix, reading that link........makes me feel so sorry for people who like you who twist religion to justify what you are doing. Scaring people byb telling them if they question Israel's right to exist, than they are questioning God, and they are not good Christians and they are evil. That is shameful. And then to say that people who lived in that land, were tresspassers, that should be kicked out etc etc. That website is so anti-christian, and against Christian beliefs and Chritian values, it is shocking

      Cornix - 2011-06-30 17:40

za101, certainly not the type of God you believe in. You don't believe in the Bible, am I right? You don't know the whole history of Israel. As stated in the article: "Any squatter who is living on the land that God gave to the Jews is, at best, a guest, but not a real owner, and at worse is a trespasser." It is a harsh reality, accept it.

  • Safarilizard - 2011-06-30 16:57

Way to go Lex. To Slojam: Seems your jam is not the only thing thats slow... Numerous reports showed that the "peace loving Flotilla activists" was armed and many of them members of Jihad and Hamas. Israel sends more humanitarian Aid to Gaza and assist other war-torn countries than all the Arab states combined. Israel gave them the option to unload the cargo and an independant UN delegation would have made sure that the aid reach Gaza. What were they hiding on that ship? Does Hamas throw notes from the air to warn Israeli citizens when they are attacking schools, children and blow themselves up in the streets of Israel? Israel warns civilians before they attack Gaza to try and limit casualties. If you feel so much for Gaza, why don`t you move there? Go see how Hamas are destroying their own people`s lives and hide behind children and sick people in hospitals while attacking Israelis. Many Palestinians would rather live under an Israeli government than live in fear under Hamas

      za101 - 2011-06-30 17:05

@Safarilizard Where did they teach youn to lie. Memebers from Jihad and Hamas on the flotilla. I dont have to read the rest of your lies. You say there was numerous reports. Name them. Give us the links. Israel send more humanitarian aid to Gaza than rest of the Arab World combined, BECAUSE ISRAEL HAS PUT AN EMBARGO ON GAZA. And Israel has only started to send the LITTLE it is sending to Gaza, becuase of the brave men and women on these flotillas. If these flotillas did not go to Gaza, Israel would have let them rot. These people on the flotillas are not hiding anything. Going through Israel, is like working with Apartheid government, or Soviet Union. Nobody asked East Germany for permission when sending aid to the people of West Berlin. Throwing Notes, Israel is so humane. Apartheid South Africa said that it was being humane when it was creating the Bantustans, and it was humane when it was giving notices to tell blacks to leave areas under the Group Areas Act. Hamas is not destroying the peoples lives there in Gaza. Israel is. Answer the following. Why is Israel continuing to build settlements on Arab land in the West Bank? Why is Israel stealing Arab land?

      Romans8 - 2011-07-01 11:42

Yes I agree za101 go live there and take Irene with you to.

za 101- You have a dilemma and clearly, its eating you.Just as Africans from all over Africa streamed into SA under apartheid, so to the Arabs are streaming into Israel under Zionism. Why? With all its shortcomings, SA then, and Israel still now, have more to offer than the African and Arab states. Why do you think its so? Its something called a Judeo- Christian value system. You may not like it, but its a fact.

      za101 - 2011-07-01 10:25
