Al-Qaeda leader in Yemen killed

2012-09-10 23:50

Washington - Senior US officials are confirming that the No 2 al-Qaeda leader in Yemen has been killed, dealing a major blow to the terror group.

The officials said Saeed al-Shihri was killed, but could not confirm any US involvement in the air strike on Monday that Yemeni leaders say killed the terrorist and six others.

Yemeni officials said the missile that killed al-Shihri, who was a Saudi national, was believed to have been fired by a US-operated, unmanned drone aircraft. The US doesn't usually comment on such attacks although it has used drones in the past to go after al-Qaeda members in Yemen.

Two US officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information to the news media.

The reason drones are being used because USAF pilots see this strikes as unethical. For a country that preaches a moral highground of democracy, bill of rites, humanity and innocent until proven guilty,US are the no 1 violaters of all.

Your first sentence is nonsense. In regard to the rest of your post, Al-Quaida is waging war against the US. It has attacked her several times, including on 9/11 when citizens of 90 countries were killed. There is nothing unethical about fighting back. It took the US and freer world years to do so, after the attack on the US COle and the first World Trade Center bombing.

@fred fraser.frm ur argument ,i sense that u nly respect and give value to the wests right to life. The attrocities commitd by the west on the Vietmamese,Iraqis and places like Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib to name just a few have gone unchallenged to say the least.Evrytime a drone unethically kills some1,he is conveniently either the no1 or no2 Al Qaeda member. How many no1s nd no2s r there?
