Buenos Aires - Police investigating a property in a suburb of Buenos Aires found a dead man and the partially mummified corpse of his mother, news reports said on Thursday.

Police discovered the body of the 58-year-old man in the kitchen, while his mother's body was sat nearby on a chair at the table, police told news agency DyN.

She was covered in bags and blankets, and her body had dried with the passage of time, police said, according to the Clarin daily.

Neighbours alerted the authorities after noticing a stench coming from the apartment. Police estimated that the son had died about a month ago, while his mother had been dead for about a decade.
