Cuyahoga Falls - Authorities say a 7-year-old autistic boy has survived a 41m fall from a cliff into a gorge at an Ohio park.

Andrew Nickol's paternal grandmother said on Thursday that he is hospitalised with a broken pelvis, broken hand and extensive bruising.

Charlotte Nickol says the boy was staying with his mother and maternal grandmother at a home in the Akron suburb of Cuyahoga Falls when he disappeared at about 19:00 on Wednesday.

Cuyahoga Falls police say the boy fell down an 85-degree slope at nearby Gorge Metro Park and was found near the bank of the Cuyahoga River.

Charlotte Nickol says her grandson doesn't talk and can't tell them what happened.
