Iraq church siege ends, 100 freed

Baghdad - An American military spokesperson says Iraqi forces have freed about 100 hostages being held by gunmen inside a Baghdad church.

Eric Bloom says about 100 hostages were believed to be inside the Catholic church when gunmen stormed the building on Sunday.

There were conflicting reports about how many attackers were involved and how many people were killed in the incident.

A defence ministry official said seven hostages were killed.
