Bin Laden will answer to God - Vatican

2011-05-02 13:41

Vatican City - Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden will have to answer to God for having killed many people and exploiting religion to spread hate, the Vatican said on Monday.

Spokesperson Father Federico Lombardi said that while Christians "do not rejoice" over a death, it serves to remind them of "each person's responsibility before God and men".

"Osama bin Laden, as everyone knows, had the grave responsibility of having spread division and hate among people, causing the deaths of an innumerable number of people and exploiting religion for these purposes," he said.

The Vatican has often condemned the concept of violence in God's name.

Lombardi also said the Vatican hoped that the death of bin Laden "would not be an occasion for more hate, but for peace".

In light of the theological insistence that all non-believers are hellbound the announcement that a particular unbeliever is going to hell is hardly newsworthy. In addition, its strangely ironic and hypothetical that the organisation that spread holy war throughout that known world, that enforced its theology down the barrel of a gun, set Europe alight with its torturous murder of non-catholics and makes the spreading of division and hate one of its central messages, would lecture anyone else about the destination of the alleged soul. Afterall, far more have died at the hands of the papal office than by those of Bin Laden. Completely hilarious is the insistence that the church has something against violence in the name of a god whose worship they declare as heresy. Why were are still being lectured to by the theocrats in the 2st century is beyond me.

You hit the nail on the head. It took the Papal Office 400 years to apologise for excommunicating Galileo for telling them the world was round. They still haven't apologised for the Spanish Inquisition, they still haven't apologised and made public their role in hiding Nazi war criminals after WW2. They are hypocrites of the worst type. They sanctioned the Crusades which were actually fought for the control of the spice routes to Europe.

OBL is not viewed as an unbeliever. He is viewed as an extremist believer. In OBL's case, the assertion that he may be hell bound is a judgement based on his direct and indirect action that lead to the deaths of innocent people. It is not based on the fact that he does not believe. Moreover, in this article the Vatican is not quoted as saying that OBL is going to hell. The Vatican allegedly said that OBL would be answerable to God. It seems you have made up your own story here along with throwing in a number of non facts. You need to look up the words "heresy" and "hypothetical" as you clearly do not understand what either of these terms mean. Finally, when using the phrase "the church" you then include the millions of Catholics around the world who do not deserve your vitriol. Although I am a non-believer myself, I would never insult another's church or their religious belief system. I find it very difficult to fathom why non-Catholics, agnostics and atheists alike find it necessary to continuously bash the Catholics. It is their personal preference and they are entitled to it. If they choose to follow the Catholic faith then so be it. Why is it so important to you that you're prepared to insult all Catholics? When you're checking the dictionary, look up the word "bigot".

      Rei-davie - 2011-05-02 17:11

The Pope and his peadophile cronies will answer to God!

      Johan - 2011-05-02 17:17

(*hypocritical)Au contraire, OBL is most certainly an unbeliever in the Roman Catholic God, a heresy for which RCC theology insists hell awaits for which for generations the inquisition would burn you at the stake. He is not a believer in Yahweh at all, he is not a believer in any of catholic doctrine (save for the plagiarised part) and again if one merely takes the time to read the catholic theology on the manner and reasons for which one could potentially end up in hell OBL is unavoidably hell bound, even before he wasnt baptized. If you can identify any part of my post that is made up, please do so by return as indeed I would invite you to identify what part of my post was not factual. I assure you I take great care to educate myself as to the meaning which the catholic church attaches to words such as "heresy". The RCC spent generations butchering fellow christians for their non-belief on the basis for this very definition, let alone those who reject this superstition entirely. Your atheism is an offence, a damnable heresy, to every abrahamic faith, you offend in your non-belief and all three of the major offshoots have at some point in their history insisted you be condemned to death for it. How could you not be outraged by an organisation that shields the molestors of children, damns generations to death by its bronze age refusal to consider birth control and condoms and lies to children for a living? You should be outraged.

      Misan Thrope - 2011-05-03 01:40

Johan, get a grip. Allah and God is the same being. This is recognised as an interdenominational fact, save for the fundamentalists of the monotheistic faiths who would have you believe otherwise. As for the rest of your garbage, you have so much to learn about religion that I don't even know where to start to point you in the right direction. You have got a lot to learn. I am outraged by the actions of some of the Catholic leadership, as any human being with a functioning conscience would be - as are many of the Catholic faithful but that's where I stop. I would not go as far as insulting or ridiculing the entire Catholic Church based on the actions of a few misguided and evil individuals. That would be illogical, ignorant and unjust … just as you are.

I agree, but I wonder if the Vatican realizes that it will also answer for the atrocities of their leaders over the centuries in the name of religion? What about the Crusades? What about their persecution of Protestants - those whom they burned alive at the stake? What about the cover up of sexual perversion among their own priests? Let us not be too quick to judge - for we must all appear before the judgment seat of God and we will all be found guilty - there is salvation only in the Lord Jesus Christ who came to live the life we could not live and died so that will not die eternally.

The US/Israel/UK are responsible for millions of innocent lives lost to fuel their lust for wealth and world dominance. They took over from where the Roman Catholic Church left off. We are naive to think that ideologies and belief's are the root cause of all the bloodshed in the world today, they are mere pawns in the global chess game played by the few who really rule the world. When you've got the world media circus at your disposal, you control the thoughts of billions and thereby perpetuate the myth of a world under terrorist siege.

Marco wake up and smell the coffee buddy. Do you really believe that the same people who hung Jesus from the cross are going to come back later to help Christianity rid itself of its nemesis, Islam? "By way of deception, We shalt do war" this is the mantra of the Israeli Mossad. They have used this deception to fuel enmity and hatred between Islam and Christianity for centuries, while they prosper upon the spoils of war. Nobody found it odd that 4000 Jewish workers from the WTC did not turn up for work on 9/11 or the fact that Jewish owned companies that were renting office space at the WTC terminated their leases and vacated the building a month before 9/11. Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see in the media today.

      Kevin - 2011-05-02 15:44

The Mossad has only existed for about 60 years so I guess that the rest of your drivel is just that. By the way the State of Israel exists because the great powers (USA, GB and USSR) thought it would salve their collective guilt for the extermination of the Jews by Adolph Hitler. He was only industrialising what centuries of pogroms in Eastern Europe had made acceptable in the minds of those people.

Haven't you heard of Papal infallibility, he believes he cant make a mistake. This invitation came after Mugabe made a speech slagging off the Catholic Church for being run by white men. It is what you would expect from an organisation which hasn't condemned a mass murderer yet, not even Adolph Hitler.

      GHL - 2011-05-02 17:06

@Kevin: You are completely ignorant of the doctrine of papal infallibility. It is only valid under very specific conditions, and ONLY applies where Faith and Morals are concerned. The pope can and WILL err in many other matters. Furthermore, infallibility is not the same as impeccability. The Church has NEVER taught that the pope is perfect, or that he is somehow exempt from judgment or punishment. He will answer to God for his actions just like anyone else.

  • IceMan - 2011-05-02 15:37

lol --- and so will the Pope who looks like a Devil incarnate and all his priest's and bishops and cardinals ... accused of molesting innocent kids

      GHL - 2011-05-02 17:10

Not that it is in ANY way excusable that priests have been guilty of abusing children, but a study done in the US in the archdiocese of Philidelphia (the archdiocese most greatly affected by child abuse) has found that the prevalence of child abusers among the Catholic clergy is no higher than the average of child abusers found among the general population, and that there are actually higher rates of abuse among clergy of certain other religions.

  • Mabhulwana - 2011-05-02 17:26

and that study was conducted by the Catholic Church?

      GHL - 2011-05-02 18:02

"The most quoted survey of sexual problems among Protestant clergy states that some ten percent are involved in sexual misconduct of some kind, and ‘about two or three percent’ are pedophiles, a rate equal to or higher than that suggested for Catholic priests" (Pedophiles and Priests, Oxford University Press)

      GHL - 2011-05-02 18:09

One expert in pedophilia, Dr. John Bradford, "estimates its [pedophilia's] prevalence at maybe four percent of the population" (John Cloud, "Pedophilia," Time, April 29, 2002). A recent study conducted in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania showed a 1.7 percent figure of priestly sexual abuse involving minors (cited by Philip Jenkins on May 17, 2002) "Once the "pedophile priest" became an archetype in the press's mind, new accounts of priestly misconduct were poured into that mold. The fact that there is no corresponding "pedophile pastor" profile in the press's mind tends to cause instances of non-Catholic clerical abuse to be viewed as isolated incidents rather than as symptoms of a larger social problem."(Pedophiles and Priests, pp. 3-12). Philip Jenkins is a Protestant.
