Boy fined after toy motorbike hits SUV

Ciudad Juarez - Police in this border city repented on Thursday over ticketing a 6-year-old boy for reckless driving, driving without a licence and not having his vehicle registered after he drove his miniature motorbike into an SUV.

The boy's mother, Karla Noriega, said police impounded the miniature petrol-powered motorbike that her son got for Christmas after he crashed into an SUV on December 27.

Noriega decided to go to the media and make the case public after finding out she would have to pay what she called a "ridiculous" $183 in fines to recover the toy motorbike.

City council Secretary Hector Arceluz said on Thursday that authorities had dropped the fines, released the motorbike and would punish the police officers for having acted improperly.

Noriega's son Gael was happy to get his minibike back, but said it no longer works after the accident.

Damn! Story started out so positive, but they had to drop the charges... Sounds completely correct to me. They might scale down on the charges because he's a first offender and all kinds of nonsense, and even do away with the confiscation part, but he should be held accountable (or more correctly, his parents).

If he got hurt his parents would have blamed the SUV driver?

Wow, who will win the idiot award? The nominees are: The parents for buying their kid a petrol motorbike, the cops for trying to fine a 6-year old because it wasn't licensed (instead of the parents) or the parents again for trying to get it back after their child proved it was unsafe after smashing it to pieces against some poor bloke's SUV. And the winner is...

I guess News24 had nothing else to report on so they went and found this nonsense somewhere. Why is this even being reported on?
