Sao Paulo - A driver in Brazil's biggest city has lost control of his car and run over 15 people standing on a sidewalk after leaving a church service.

Police in Sao Paulo say at least two people are in grave condition after being hit by the speeding car.

They say they're trying to track down the driver, who fled the scene on Sunday night after running over a group of people that included at least seven children.

Police said on Monday they suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol - and possibly drugs. Substances that appear to be cocaine and marijuana were found in the abandoned car.

The car that hit the people shows the violence of the crash. Its windshield is smashed, along with the hood and front bumper.
