Ottawa - A 77-year-old Canadian woman dubbed the "Internet Black Widow" for marrying widowers and then killing or bilking them has been charged with the attempted murder of her husband of two weeks.

Cape Breton police in Canada's easternmost Nova Scotia province arrested Millie Weeks, also known as Melissa Friedrich, on Monday after her current husband became violently ill.

She is accused of trying to poison him.

Fred Weeks, 75, was taken on Sunday to hospital where doctors became suspicious and called police. He is now recovering.

Millie Weeks has spent several years in jail for manslaughter, theft and forgery in Canada and the United States.

She was convicted of drugging husband Gordon Stewart in 1991 before running him over repeatedly with a car on a deserted road near Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Once released from prison after serving only part of a six-year sentence, she moved to Florida where she met Robert Friedrich at a Christian retreat.

They married in 2000, but his health began to falter and his money disappeared. He died of a cardiac arrest in 2002.

Weeks later she met Alex Strategos, 73, on a dating website. On the day they moved in together - and seven more times over a two-month period - he was hospitalized for injuries, including to his head.

She spent five years in a Florida prison for theft and forgery after a strange drug was found in Strategos's system and his bank account was emptied.

She was released in 2009 and deported to Canada.
