Chavez denounces West over Libya

2011-08-22 09:04
line

Caracas - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a staunch of ally of embattled strongman Muammar Gaddafi, slammed Western powers on Sunday for "destroying Tripoli with their bombs", as rebels surged to seize control of the Libyan capital.

"Today we are seeing images of the democratic governments of Europe, along with the supposedly democratic government of the United States destroying Tripoli with their bombs," Chavez said.

Television news footage aired out of Libya showed rebels forces pushing towards Libya on Sunday and late into the night capturing keys areas of the capital, including the symbolic Green Square, but not of bombing related to the Nato campaign that backed the anti-Gaddafi alliance.

The bombs, Chavez said however, were "falling on schools, hospitals, workplaces, farmland.

"Let's pray to God for the Libyan people," he said.

Last week Chavez along with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, both arch US foes, jointly denounced the West's "imperialist aggression" in Libya.

Chavez - Gaddafi's main supporter in Latin America - has consistently denounced the months-long military operation in Libya claiming it is an oil grab by Western powers.

Adam says... fred i dont know as much as other do about what goes on there - i certinaly know more then other who like to pretend they know whats going on... when you speak of blind hatred of arabs by israelis i dont doubt that for 1 second, but what can be truthfully said is that no matter how deep their hatred runs, the israelis do not butcher palestinian families in their sleep, ot teach their children that their mission is kill as many jews as possible. neither do they celebrate the deaths of palestinians by dancing in the streets, or even take palestinians hostage for years with out access to medical care or any form of communication with the out side world. no individual or nation on this earth is perfect, but when looked at from a far, its very clear that one side has a true evil embedded in them. for the love of christ please dont answer this post with the line, "yes and that side is the ractist israelis...." cos it simply isnt, the israelis have offered olive branches of peave too many times to count and all they have every gotten in return is rockets and suicide bombers. the palestinians make it no secret that peace is not an option, so why people come here and try explain that it is, is beyond me.
