2012-07-15 14:17

Rome - Two mountain climbers have died on the Italian Alpine peak Mont Blanc, police said on Sunday.

The victims were a 25-year old Spanish man and a 30-year old Polish woman, who froze to death on Saturday in an attempt to climb the 4 400 metre summit.

The pair died of cold and exhaustion after being caught in a storm, the news agency Ansa reported, along a ridge on the Swiss-Italian border of the Alps.

On Thursday nine climbers died in an avalanche in the Mont Blanc area, in one of the worst single accidents in recent years.
