Rabat - Moroccan police have arrested 30 suspected terrorists in two days of raids in several towns in the north African country, Al Ahdath Al Maghribia newspaper reported on Friday.
Those arrested include Kamal Mahboub, described by the newspaper as a 23-year-old suspected terrorist who escaped when police arrested three others in the northern port of Casablanca on May 1.
Mahboub was injured but managed to flee with two other Muslim fundamentalist radicals when armed police carried out the raid at the start of the month. Four police officers and two alleged extremists were slightly wounded then.
Wounded in one leg, Mahboub was arrested on Wednesday at Sale near the capital Rabat, Al Ahdath Al Maghribia reported.
Police have detained many alleged terrorists during a series of investigations and raids which have followed attacks in Casablanca on May 16, 2003, when 45 people were killed, including 12 suicide bombers.
Judicial sources say that more than 1 000 people have been arrested and tried in dozens of court hearings arising from the attacks. Some heavy sentences have been passed, including 14 death sentences.
