Zagreb - Croatia's capital Zagreb on Tuesday recorded 67cm
of snow, the highest level in the past 84 years, which has paralysed
transportation in the city, the weather service said.
"It is a record figure since 1929 when we had
registered 80cm of snow," Ankica Stojanovic of the national weather
forecast service told AFP.
The snow started to fall late Sunday and has disrupted
transportation in the city of about 800 000 people.
More than 1 000 volunteers along with fire-fighters and
members of the mountain rescue services were helping to clear away the snow.
Air traffic however was undisturbed as the airport
remained open and there were no major delays in flights.
According to the weather forecast, more heavy snowfall
was expected on Wednesday in Zagreb as well as in central Croatia.
